WhAT IS FIESTA?
Fiesta San Antonio is one of the city’s most beloved traditions — an 11-day celebration of culture, community, and history that brings San Antonio to life each spring. The festival began in 1891 when a group of local women organized the first Battle of Flowers Parade to honor the heroes of the Battle of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto. During that first parade in front of the Alamo, participants tossed flowers at one another in remembrance of those historic battles.
Over the decades, Fiesta has grown into a vibrant citywide celebration featuring more than 100 official events, including parades, live music, art festivals, cultural celebrations, athletic events, and educational programs. Iconic events like the Battle of Flowers Parade, the Fiesta Flambeau Parade, and the Texas Cavaliers River Parade draw visitors from across Texas and beyond.
Often called the “Party with a Purpose,” Fiesta San Antonio also supports the community by raising funds for over 100 local nonprofit organizations while generating an estimated $340 million economic impact for the city.
One of the most recognizable Fiesta traditions is collecting and trading Fiesta medals — colorful keepsakes worn proudly on shirts, jackets, and sashes as symbols of San Antonio’s festive spirit.
Today, Fiesta remains a celebration of the city’s rich and diverse cultures, bringing people together to honor San Antonio’s history while enjoying the food, music, art, and traditions that make the city unique.
